About This Service
Sore Throat Treatment

Sore Throat Treatment

A sore throat is usually caused by a virus and most cases clear up on their own within a week. But if yours is severe or not improving, you do not need to wait for a GP. Through the NHS Pharmacy First service, a pharmacist at Jardines Pharmacy can assess your symptoms and, where clinically appropriate, supply treatment - free, with no appointment or GP referral. The service is available for adults and children aged 5 and over.

Key Benefits

✓Free NHS service for adults and children aged 5 and over
✓No GP appointment or referral needed
✓Same-day, private consultation with a qualified pharmacist
✓Treatment supplied where clinically appropriate
✓Clear self-care advice, whether or not medicine is needed
✓Available face to face, by phone or video

What to Expect

1The pharmacist asks about your symptoms and how long you have had them.
2They check for signs that need a GP or further care.
3They use a recognised clinical scoring method to decide if antibiotics are appropriate.
4You receive treatment and/or self-care advice, with a plan if things do not improve.
